What are Inlays and Onlays?

Traditional fillings use metal or composite filling whereas Inlays and Onlays look more natural and can be used to repair teeth damage. An Inlay is more comfortable than placing a crown in your mouth. Known as partial crowns, an Onlay replaces one or more of the chewing cusps and other areas that are in need of restoration.

Procedure

Imaging

During your first visit, Dr. Cutler will take images and molds that will be used to create your new Inlay. Decay and remaining fillings will be removed to prepare your tooth to receive the Inlay. A temporary filling will be put in to protect your tooth from any damage and the mold is sent to the lab.

Inlay Placement

Upon your next visit, the Inlay will be carefully placed in your mouth. Be sure to tell Dr. Cutler if you feel any discomfort so adjustments can be made. Once everything is good to go, Dr. Cutler will cement the Inlay in place, restoring your tooth.

Regular Checkups

Once you have your new Inlay or Onlay make sure to keep up your great oral hygiene and a healthy diet. Your new filling will be checked every time you come in for a regular checkup.
